These cases arise out of two student demonstrations on the campus of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, on February 21, 1967, and October 18, 1967. The defendants were protesting against the American policy in Vietnam. The arrests were made in a university building in which the university had arranged for a chemical manufacturer to conduct employment interviews. One of the products the manufacturer produced was napalm. The defendants were arrested and convicted, after jury trials, of a violation of the disorderly conduct statute.
